As Night-Wolf goes on to explain (in some detail) he first appeared during a costume ball hosted by Mayor Potter. Unexpectedly
the party was gatecrashed by Colonel Shard and The Razor Boys who attempted to hold Cardinal's political movers and shakers
hostage. Some say it was destiny, some say it was divine providence, some say it was just a drunk party-goer who didn't understand
the gravity of the situation, but from the back of the hall a man stepped forward. He was strong in stature and loud in mouth.
He demanded the gatecrashers leave (and the music be put back on). The distraction both this, and the subsequent beating he
endured, allowed the mayor and his enterage to escape.
The following week however the Mayor offered this costumed individual the keys to the city if he stepped forward, and he
did. He was Night-Wolf... and the legend was born.
It is believed that he studies the ancient and noble arts of hand-to-hand combat under the tutorlidge of the legendary
hero Pennigton Flash. Pennington, who ran a gym in the Cardinal Heights district of the city, claimed to be able train
any individual not only in fighting technique but the more spiritual side of inner peace (or your money back).
Night-Wolf trained under Pennigton for 8 months and, after a complete refund, took to the streets...
"Sidekick? I Don't Need No Stinkin' Sidekick!"
This quote, attributed by Typo-Lad to Night-Wolf, took place at the Protectorate Leagues networking event early in Night-Wolf's
carreer. It would be proved wrong as Night-Wolf soon entered the record books for the hero with most amount of sidekicks in
history, the majority of which died in battle (see FAQ).
The same night as the networking event Night-Wolf caught a cab with Commander Cyclone. Unbeknownst to the passengers the
driver of this cab was none other than Doctor Photon who was planning to kill Cyclone, his arch nemesis. Photon drove the
two to an abandoned warehouse and sprung his trap; a deadly device that would suck the life from the two. Night-Wolf jumped
into action and instantly sided with Photon, even going so far as to kick Cyclone in his wind tunnel. While the 2 argued about
percentage of profits Cyclone freed himself and disarmed Photon, greatfully acknowledging Night-Wolf's help in distracting
the villain. As a gesture of comraderie the Commander offered his own partner ColdFront as Night-Wolf's own.
Perhaps he was moved by the gesture, perhaps he saw something of himself in the youth, perhaps he saw the advantage 2 against
1 could have in a battle situation. Whichever it was ColdFront and Night-Wolf were an inseperable duo that would last forever...
At least that was the plan. However within 2 weeks Coldfront was no more.
The newspapers called it "The Day The Earth Shook!". The villain Quake went on a rampage in downtown Cardinal and ColdFront
perished when the city's council building fell on him in battle. Night-Wolf, who at the time was accompanying the wounded
to hospital (in case of a "retaliatory strike" he explained) was not present. While opening a super market later that afternoon
he swore vengeance.
In the days that followed Cardinal City became a who's who of costumed heroes as Quake, who by this time had joined Evil:
International, was hunted down. The city saw the largest and most destructive battle in it's history as both The Clapper and
Isometric Man died in what is now known as "Crisis In Cardinal City". Night-Wolf described these days as "the darkest
of my life, I was so alone and isolated - then after the battle I came out of the cupboard."
The perceived failure of his mentoring did not dent Night-Wolf's use of sidekicks and before long ColdFront's name was
joined by many others on the tomb of heroes hallowed walls. Easily the most popular of his many partners is Wolf-Boy who is
now arguably more popular than Night-Wolf. The reason for their split is shrouded in mystery but after a disasterous appearance
on a charity telethon Night-Wolf declared the partnership over.
Currently the youth Toothbrush Boy now serves as his partner in crime fighting.
The Future.
After 10 years many suggest Night-Wolf should step back into the shadows and leave his heir apparent; Wolf-Boy, to defend
the city. Is this likely? Would Night-Wolf ever turn his back on the city he has sworn to protect? The answer lies in the
new documentary about him; "Night-Wolf". I'll be first in the queue to see this hard hitting film that gets under the skin
of the myth of the super hero. See you there!!
